From Manila, Fursy is a freelance stylist with an ardent love for dance, cinema, thrifting, and the art of DJ-ing. We had the privilege of inviting Fursy to share her one-of-a-kind narratives and to delve deeper into her newfound adventures and innovative creative avenues.
Were there sacrifices made in order for you to have a chance to chase your passion?
I think the biggest sacrifice I made was my education, I dropped out of college since I was already doing freelance work when I was studying, and school in general at that time I can say was not for me - my mental health was pushed into the limit that all I can do to save myself was to stop though I am not closing my doors on going back soon maybe on the right time and university.
What pushed you to place yourself out of your comfort zone?
I had a lot of insecurities growing up as a morena and curly-haired girl so it took me years to finally let loose and just be myself, not gonna lie I think I’m still in the process of slowly letting myself out but with the help of the people around me it definitely makes things easier.
Would you recommend people to chase their dreams even though it could be the road less traveled?
Yes, I believe that the things that are meant for you and how you attract them to your life will happen eventually. It’s always a different road for everybody so I advise you to not rush yourself or cut yourself some slack if some things aren’t planned out the way you want them to be.
Has chasing your passion gotten you to a situation where you wanted to give up? If so, how did you persevere?
A lot of times, I think one of the big helps for me was to take a rest and reset, know what’s sustaining you and your energy in a good way. Listen to your body and have a pamper, go back to what activity gives you joy before that you haven’t done recently and eventually in time, you’ll see yourself getting inspired again.
What would be your message of inspiration to others who want to chase their dreams and passion like you?
Be sure of what you want to pursue, it’s all not glam and glitz, there will always be hardships and sacrifices. Surround yourself with people who love and believe in you and stay humble.
