Were there sacrifices made in order for you to have a chance to chase your passion?

Moving to La Union meant that I couldn’t accommodate all my clients in Manila anymore. I had to let go of some of my shoots because it became exhausting for me to keep traveling back and forth to the city just for that. I sacrificed my name as a Photographer in Manila because I wasn’t really in the scene anymore. I started looking for online jobs- I currently have 3. I’m a Photo Editor for a Photographer in the states, I’m a Photo Reviewer for Canva and the administration support of And A Half Design studio.
Living here also meant I had to live a more simple life. We don’t really have the easiest access to malls, salons, bigger restaurants etc. It taught me to be content with what I have. And I’m actually really happy.

What pushed you to place yourself out of your comfort zone?

I remember realizing that I was always happiest around nature. In the city, I would get tired and annoyed easily because of the traffic. I would also get sick more often. I honestly felt healthier, happier and calmer whenever I was around nature, or surfing in the ocean. This pushed me to move to La Union. I chose my mental health and my happiness.

Would you recommend people to chase their dreams even though it could be the road less traveled?

Yes. It was the best decision I made. I’m at my happiest state. I used to be scared of having to move because it meant I had to start over and leaving everything I built behind. But how will you know if you don’t take the risk, right?

Has chasing your passion gotten you to a situation where you wanted to give up? If so, how did you persevere?

Yes, definitely. Especially when my freelance work wasn’t so strong since the bigger brands really are in Manila. I started to lose confidence in myself as a Photographer and I was starting to worry financially because it came to a point that I was using my savings already because I couldn’t find an online job that I wanted to do. I was so scared because I knew I didn’t want to move back to the city. This was when I started applying to a lot of online jobs (that were still connected to Photography). I really prayed hard for it and I guess I’m just blessed that I landed not just 1, but 3. :)

What would be your message of inspiration to others who want to chase their dreams and passion like you?

Take risks. Don’t be scared of them. This is where you can grow as an individual and get to know yourself more. It’s okay to try different things, cause when you do, you’ll know what makes you happy, you’ll know what you deserve. :)
