Hunnystory: Angelica Alberto

Ange works as a movement coach specializing in unconventional flow-based movement. Her goal is to help people optimize their everyday movement and access flow state in an approachable and enjoyable way. Currently, she serves as Regional Leader for Animal Flow in the Philippines, and is also the Co-Founder of Rope Flow Philippines, and Flow Movement Philippines.

Animal Flow is a bodyweight movement practice where we connect with our bodies by putting our hands and feet on the ground. This allows us to build a stronger, more resilient, more coordinated, and more mobile body. Whether you want to train athleticism and performance, or just feel better in your body on a daily basis, Animal Flow is a tool that can be used to re-connect with your body’s natural way of moving.

What is animal flow for you?

For me, Animal Flow is so much more than a workout.

  • It's communication – 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘦 communication where we actually take time to bring our full awareness back into our bodies; to listen, to breathe, 𝘵𝘰 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦, to move because 𝘸𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯 and 𝘸𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰.

  • It's connection. strengthening the relationship with most sophisticated piece of equipment on earth - 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺. Re-training your nervous system be more aware and responsive to your environment.

  • It's meditation. a moment of freeing bliss when your 𝘸𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 is fully 𝘪𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘥 and 𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦, and the voices in your head fall away. A gateway into Flow State where you are no longer thinking; just being, acting, and reacting.

  • And It's possible. for everybody.

Passion:

As a coach who loves working with beginners, I have learned that you can change someone’s life completely by empowering them to use and trust their body. Too often, someone will come to a group workout class and feel self-conscious, shy, and completely detached from their body. If they aren't able to break out of this at some point in the session, it can end up becoming a traumatic, or at least discouraging, experience for them. If, instead, you can create a safe space to where they are absorbed in the curiosity of figuring out a new movement, or excited about learning a fun flow sequence, you open up a whole new world for them.

Making movement relatable, accessible, understandable, and FUN for someone who has never felt empowered in their body ignites something in them, and enables them to value their body far beyond its visual appeal. The repercussions of this ripple far beyond the workout session, and can deeply impact self-esteem and self-worth.

Focusing my classes on these authentic experiences and connections adds so much more value to my clients' lives (versus just "burning calories" and "losing weight"), and is deeply fulfilling for me too. I like to constantly remind the people I work with to destroy the idea that movement is just for fit bodies, or strong bodies. EVERY body is made to move. Even yours.

Community involvement:

One of the best parts of Animal Flow is our amazing community of passionate movers all around the globe. This practice has brought me to meet some of the most vibrant, intelligent, and kind people I’ve come across.

The energy I get from sharing this practice is unmatched. Seeing the joy unfold as someone begins to understand the potential their body has for movement fills my heart up all the way to the brim. When you are able to ignite that curiosity in someone, and then give them the tools to explore it, you empower them to improve their quality of life. This is my goal for every client I work with.

I never feel more accomplished as a coach than when my clients say they their lives have changed because they no longer experience chronic pain, or have never felt so connected with their body, or can't stop trying out the flow we did in our last session. This multiplies tenfold when that person decides to share this with someone else they care about, and the same thing happens all over again. Knowing this is the impact that my work is having on people is why I do what I do.
